Cleaning lifts

A lift plays an important role in giving a first impression. In offices, shopping centres or parking facilities, the lift – along with the entrance area – acts as the first point of contact, a kind of business card for the building. But maintenance cleaning for lifts can be a tricky task. We provide you with 10 tips including suitable product recommendations.

👉 1. Use a cordless vacuum cleaner (e.g. Monovac BeFree). Outlets are not always available in the vicinity of lifts.

👉 2. Choose the suction nozzle to match the floor: If carpets are installed, a special nozzle for brush vacuuming (e.g. suction nozzle Picojet C or turbo nozzle 28) delivers cleaner and more efficient results than a conventional suction nozzle.

👉 3. For cleaning the lift door profile (“grooves”), we recommend using a joint nozzle. Make sure to maintain an ergonomic posture when bending down: Keep your back straight when lowering yourself, place one knee on the ground and avoid a rounded, bent back.

👉 4. If a smooth floor covering (PVC, natural rubber) is present, dust-binding mopping (e.g. with Masslinn 2000 dust cloths) is the ideal choice for removing loose dirt. Wet mopping with water and cleaning product (e.g. with Wetrok Granufloor and Microbrush mop) is only recommended for stubborn dirt. Practical problem solver: With the Melamine pad, you can whisk away black scuff marks left by shoes in a matter of seconds. The Melamine pad is not suitable for floor coverings made of natural rubber or coated floor coverings.

👉 5. If there is chewing gum stuck to the walls or on the floor, the best way to remove this is using a freeze spray (e.g. Karpfrost). For other special stains, we recommend using a stain remover kit (e.g. Karpotek).

👉 6. Clean the cabin door and cabin walls using a microfibre cloth and the appropriate cleaning product (e.g. Wetrok Brilant). If the walls are covered with pen scribbles or greasy finger marks, you can also use the Melamine pad. Important: The Melamine pad is only suitable for smooth, abrasion-resistant surfaces.

👉 7. The glass cleaning agent (e.g. Wetrok Brilant) should NEVER be sprayed directly on the mirror or the glass surface: instead, spray it on the microfibre cloth (to prevent damage to nearby materials such as wood frames etc.).

👉 8. Observe the cleaning intervals as planned in the cleaning schedule. The cleaning intervals are defined by the desired visual appearance (prestige), the level of hygiene required for the specific building (safety) as well as frequency. As a minimum, schedule in a daily check cleaning in addition to conventional maintenance cleaning.

👉 9. In the event of epidemics, pandemics or in an environment with increased hygiene requirements, it is recommended – in addition to maintenance cleaning – to carry out regular disinfection of touchpoints: Call buttons, exterior and interior panels, handrails etc. The best option here are disposable cloths for alcoholic wipe-down disinfection (e.g. Hospisept cloths). Disposable disinfection cloths are ideal for areas where spraying is not desired (danger of aerosols in an excessively compact space / danger posed to electronic equipment due to moisture).

👉 10. Visual checks are essential. That’s why you should always take time – even during maintenance cleaning – for a quick glance to check the ceiling (spiderwebs) and the lights (dust).
